The Art of Surrender

We are living in scary times. The key to to getting through the events we are experiencing with the entire world is to surrender. Surrendering doesn't mean you are not taking every precaution to protect yourself and family it means coming to grips with what you can and cannot control.

In the end the only thing under our control is ourselves. Yoga and meditation can be key to accepting what you can and cannot control or change. Anxiety, anger, hate are all emotions driven by fear. In the realm of a healthy spirit surrender doesn't mean you give up, but that you let go of what doesn't serve you. The ego desires to control things and tricks you into thinking that you can control what you cannot. This happens when we try to change someone in our life to bring them into line with who/what we think they should be. This is not something that ever works. We can only transform ourselves, and thoughtfully ask for change in other. But is the other doesn't want to change there is nothing that can be done outside of accepting them for who that are and deciding whether staying in the same relationship serves you or not. Then letting go...surrendering.

The same can be said for what we are currently living through. We have no control over the outside forces driving this pandemic. We can attempt to influence by contacting our law makers to share our priorities, we can do what we can to help those in our community less fortunate than ourselves, we be thankful for the essential first line workers taking care of us at great personal risk and we can treat each other with love and compassion. Surrender to what you can do and let go of what you have no control over.
