First Chakra is named Muladhara
The first three chakras are concerned with the physical and the first chakra is concerned with survival and security. This is where the consequences of your earliest memories as a child are stored and trauma to a child age seven or under will manifest as first chakra problems. The organs and physiological systems associated with the first chakra are the skeleton, large intestine, rectum, anus, sense of smell and the flight or flight reaction produced in the adrenals.
The first chakra, located at the base of the spine, is the foundation that holds up all else that gets built during your formative years. If the first chakra is weak, overly strong or you hold trauma there it can manifest in physical, mental and emotional ailments that disrupt your current life. Each year of the first seven years of life the first chakra serves as the foundation for the development of the next six chakras. Trauma, insecurity caused by lack of resources, feeling unloved or not loved enough will cause an imbalance in one or more higher chakras depending on the age(s) the issues arose. In essence, if you felt safe and had your needs met as a child you likely have a strong, balanced first chakra.
The first chakra is where you manifest your creativity into the physical realm; where you ground your physical and energy body to feel safe and secure. The word muladhara means root support or base. This is where your connection to the earth resides. If you’re not well grounded through the first chakra imbalances, either excessive or deficient will manifest that could include overeating, resistance to change, fixation on material things, excessive consuming or spending, anxiety, disconnection from your physical body, difficulty manifesting what you what your creative imagination produces.
Physical ailments can arise from an imbalanced muladhara including disorders of the bowels; constipation, diarrhea; musculoskeletal problems with the knees, ankles or feet; chronic health issues and immune system issues
Balancing the first chakra can be done through meditation to feel grounded and reduce anxiety, yoga that focuses on stimulating the first chakra such as standing asanas, connecting with nature and sound healing. Additionally, working through your memories to find the wounds, care for them, forgive those who made them and commit to self-love and self-parenting to make up for deficits in during your early childhood.
