A Series that will examine each chakra and provide tips on keeping each chakra open and balanced.
Our bodies have pathways through which energy flows. You may be familiar with the meridians described in Chinese medicine and is used in acupuncture to unblock stagnant energy to return the body to a healthful condition. In yogic philosophy there is the chakra system. Simply put energy body consists of 72,000 nadis and seven chakras. These energetic pathways and pools carry the life force or prana through the body. The three main energetic pathways the Ida, Pingala and Sushumna meet at the base of the spine where the Kundalini energy resides in the First Chakra. The Ida and Pingala cross each other at four of the chakra centers ending at the nostrils. The Ida ends at the left nostril and carries feminine energy (Yin or Moon) the Pingala ends at the right nostril and carries the male energy (Yang or Sun).
You carry your life’s experiences, both good and bad in your chakra centers. When a chakra becomes unbalanced there are physical and mental manifestations of the problem. The Kundalini energy that sits at the base of the spine can be made to rise through practicing yoga, pranayama (breathing techniques) and meditation. The rise of the Kundalini through the Chakras to the crown chakra is a journey through self. The energy raised refines, opens and balances the Chakras and when it reaches the Sixth Chakra the energy is transformed into spiritual energy. Kundalini yoga is a Hatha based yoga whose lineage goes back to the founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanek. While Hatha yoga focuses on the physical practice of yoga, the asanas, Kundalini yoga incorporates pranayama, mantra, healing sound current and meditation into one complete practice which accelerates transformation and connecting to your highest potential.
